In all my years (over a decade) of living in Portland, I don't think I've ever experienced this kind of snowstorm before. Sure, we've had "snowpocalypses" before but not to this extent. There was one day when the whole city seemed to be shut down completely. The snow just kept accumulating and the layer of ice was new.
For my most recent Artist Date- and latest entry in my search of whimsy and wonder,- I walked around last night to see some of the art from the Portland Winter Light Festival! It's one of my favorite Portland events and last night was the perfect weather for it. Credit to all these talented creators and organizers!
Lots to love with this year's PDX WLF! A nice way to add creativity, positivity, and, of course, light during these dark winter nights!
I even stopped by to finally get some ube shaved ice afterwards.
I also saw some amazing "resistance" art that has popped up in downtown.
When someone posted this Toy Library on the Hidden Portland for the Curious Facebook page, I just had to check it out since it's definitely a great addition to the World of Whimsy and Wonder I've been curating.
Plus, I had to include this funny decorated tree on my walk there!
It snowed pretty quick, accumulating fast on the ground. It snowed prettily, quickly, a cascade of flakes falling down.
The first snowfall of winter is always a moment to look forward to.
I somehow managed to miss all my buses again. And even though I was sort of running late, I took pictures of this sidewalk chalk art on this beautiful sunny Saturday, in this year when I seek a Whimsy and Wonder, while listening to Ross Gay's The Book of Delights, and on my way to my job where I love getting to talk books with kindred spirits. I hope the promise of delights and wonder throughout the day manifests in my life- and yours!
